Motivation to Clean

Cleaning and organizing is what most of us put last on our to-do list.  Being a perfect homemaker isn't as cool as it used to be.  We have more important things to do, like spend our time on social networking!

Nevertheless, the dust bunnies and pet hair will continue to gather.  We will sneeze and cough if the house is not groomed.  No one really likes to see clutter and dirt.

Here are three ways to become motivated:

  1. Invite relatives or friends to come over: The desire to avoid embarrassment is a good motivator to getting on your clean.
  2. Book service calls: Maybe you don't really want to have to "entertain". Another invitee can be the service provider.  Call in a window cleaner, carpet cleaner, plumber, painter to either do work or give you a quote.  Chances are you will clean with a frenzy knowing he's about to arrive.  Works for me.  Last week we had deck painters coming for an appointment.  My husband and I whipped the kitchen and hallways into shape in an hour.
  3. Pretend you will have visitors:  I have a sister that likes to drop in.  I have also had neighbours that have shown up unannounced (more so in the past).  Imagine how you would feel if someone came to your door right now.  Would you be happy with what they'd see?  If not, get to work.  Make your house visitor ready.
